BYB Trigon Combat 1: Fight Results

Dada 5000 Watches Curis Millender face off with Kealli Kanekoa at the Trigon Combat weigh-in.

BYB Extreme made history Thursday night.

The bare knuckle promotion took its patented Mighty Trigon ring to California for the very first time.

Trigon Combat wasn’t a bare knuckle event-the fighters fought under BYB rules with 7 oz MMA gloves.

There was still plenty of skill, courage, and KOs on display, and the fans in the city of Costa Mesa received value for money!

Julio Tanori def. Benji Gomez-TKO Round 2

Youngster Tanori was too strong for Gomez, knocking him down twice in round two to get the TKO win.

Tanori improves to 2-0 inside the BYB trigon. He’s 1-0 in bare knuckle and 1-0 in Trigon Combat with the win against Gomez.

Isaac Freeman def. Brandon Phillips-Split Decision

Isaac Freeman and Brandon Phillips battled it out in a competitive five round bout, that ended in a split decision win for Freeman.

Freeman had the edge in round one but Phillips seemed to find his groove in rounds two and three. Some clean shots landed as Phillips tried to slip using a shell defense.

The fight seemed up for grabs heading into the fifth and final round. Freeman outscored Phillips in the final three minutes, and that may have been the difference.

Freeman is a BYB bare knuckle veteran. He lost a decision to Ukraine’s Bovar Khanakov last November at BYB 13.

Phillips made his BYB debut. The fight was close enough where you wouldn’t mind seeing a rematch at a future Trigon Combat event.

Quick Wins for Manuel De La Torre and Dan Hernandez

The next two bouts didn’t last a round.

Dan Hernandez prevailed by first-round TKO against Justyn Martinez. Hernandez is trained by noted Southern California boxing coach Henry Ramirez.

In the next bout, Manuel De La Torre stopped Channing Rain in one round. De La Torre is a training partner of BYB interim champion Sam Liera.

Nadine Mandiau def. Jessica Link-Unanimous Decision

In the sole women’s bout of the evening, Nadine Mandiau defeated Jessica Link by decision in a technical battle.

Curtis Millender def. Kealii Kanekoa-TKO Round 2

The Trigon Combat main event featured MMA veteran Curtis Millender, a regular competitor at The Hangar in Costa Mesa.

Millender improved to 10-0 at the venue with a second round stoppage over Kanekoa.

BYB Notes

Last night’s event was streamed by Fite TV on a pay-per-view basis.

BYB is back with its next bare knuckle event on 13 May in Rock Hill, South Carolina. BYB 17 features two bare knuckle title fights and a solid undercard. Broadcast details are to be announced.
