BYB Extreme today announced two world bare knuckle title fights will take place at the inaugural Police Gazette Cup.
The Police Gazette International Cup event takes place on 25 June at The Indigo at the o2 in London.
Nine BYB fighters will battle 9 fighters from Britain’s BKB organisation. The team with the most wins takes home the cup.
Barrie Jones vs Tommy Turner
Headlining the event is a Police Gazette World Title clash between Barrie Jones of Wales and Tommy Turner of USA.
Jones needs no intro to bare knuckle fans. He’s considered by some as the world’s best bare knuckle boxer after two stoppage wins against legend Jimmy Sweeney.
Jones is a former pro boxer who got into bare knuckle late in his fighting career. To date, he’s won eight fights with no losses. Seven of his opponents failed to reach the final bell.
Tommy Turner
Turner, like Barrie Jones, came to bare knuckle from a professional boxing background.
Record keeping site boxrec lists Turner’s pro boxing record as 6-12.
The record doesn’t tell the whole story. Turner has often been matched as “the opponent” for young prospects, with nearly half his opponents undefeated or once beaten.
Turner impressed in his bare knuckle debut. He stopped the tough Henry Williams in the first round at BYB 15.
Turner spoke of facing Jones after beating Williams. He gets his chance in the main event on 25 June.
Jarome Hatch, Martinjak to Rematch for Belt
In the other title fight, Jarome Hatch and Marko Martinjak will rematch for the Police Gazette World Cruiserweight Title.
Hatch shocked Martinjak to claim the belt at BYB 16 in Dubai.
Martinjak, a Croatian based in London, was the favourite heading into the match. Martinjak is more experienced, and was coming off a spectacular stoppage win against Chad Kelley.
He knocked Hatch down twice early in round one. The tough Texan, a veteran of over 40 MMA bouts, battled back to knock out Martinjak and win the belt.
The Martinjak rematch will be Hatch’s first title defence. Hatch is 3-0 inside the BYB Mighty Trigon. All 3 wins have come by knockout.
