BYB 13: Legendary Dada 5000 Returning; 3 Title Fights Set

After an exciting London debut, BYB returns to Tampa, next month with an amazing BYB 13 fight card.

Three world title fights are scheduled for the 19 November event.

That’s not all. BYB 13 also includes the return of legendary backyard brawler Dhafir “Dada 5000” Harris.

Who is Dada 5000?

Dhafir “Dada 5000” Harris, along with Mike Vazquez, is a co-founder of BYB Extreme Bare Knuckle.

Harris was a contemporary of the late Kimbo Slice, also competing in bare knuckle fights. He started promoting local backyard events, and was featured in the documentary Dawg Fight.

Dada actually fought Kimbo in an MMA bout in 2016. Slice defeated Dada by 3rd round TKO.

Harris and Vazquez eventually formed BYB, and the promotion has been holding regular events since 2019.

Dada’s opponent at BYB 13 is Matt Strickland. The fight is billed as a “special attraction”, and is Dada’s first fight in over 5 years.

Paty Juarez vs Monica Medina 2

BYB Women’s Lightweight Champion Paty Juarez meets Monica Medina in an anticipated rematch.

The two women collided at BYB 10 in May. Juarez retained her title by close split decision.

Some thought Medina deserved the win-she gets another chance at dethroning Juarez and winning the title.

Scott McHugh vs Desmond Green

Scott McHugh, the reigning BKB British champion, journeys to Florida to battle UFC veteran Desmond “The Predator” Green.

McHugh comes off impressive wins against Carlos Guerra and Martin Refell. Green is unbeaten in BYB, with wins against Jeff Chiffens & Carlos Alexandre.

McHugh is the better boxer. Can he adapt to fighting under BYB rules, where one handed clinching and hitting is allowed? He’ll also be fighting with 3 minute rounds in the Trigon, BYB’s small triangle-shaped ring.

It’s a great matchup. And it may end up as the night’s best fight.

Tony Lopez vs DJ Linderman

The Tony Lopez story continues. The unlikely heavyweight champion returns to defend against fellow veteran DJ Linderman.

Lopez, 48, has competed in boxing, MMA and kickboxing during his 17-year career. He’s had nearly 100 bouts, according to record keeping site Tapology.

Lopez won the title by decision against Josh Burns at BYB 9 in February. He won his grudge match against Jordan Mitchell, stopping the challenger in 3 rounds to retain the title.

Many people thought Burns and Mitchell would defeat the veteran. Lopez proved them wrong.

For his second defence, Lopez meets Linderman. Linderman is 1-0 in bare knuckle. He debuted with an impressive stoppage against Burns at BYB 11 in August.

It’s a rematch of sorts. Lopez beat Linderman by stoppage in an MMA match in 2019.
