UFC veteran Houston Alexander (3-0) looks to continue his unbeaten run in BKFC this Friday against Jeremy Smith. The cruiserweight bout headlines BKFC 43 in Omaha, Nebraska.
Alexander is coming off a one-sided domination win against former heayvweight champion Joey Beltran. Alexander wobbled Beltran early with a jab, and punished “The Mexicutioner” before the fight was stopped in round two.
Fighting again in front of a hometown crowd, Alexander takes on South Africa’s Smith (3-1 bare knuckle), a former kickboxer known for his toughness.
Smith could be the first opponent to seriously test Alexander, who has defeated a seemingly spent Beltran, Jason Fish, and Wes Combs.
If Alexander is able to get past Smith, he could be a challenger for the BKFC cruiserweight belt, currently held by Lorenzo Hunt.
Jimmie Rivera Returns to BKFC
Jimmie Rivera makes his BKFC return Friday night.
The UFC veteran, who went 7-4 with the promotion between 2015 and 2021, debuted in BKFC against featherweight contender Howard Davis last year.
The much taller Davis knocked Rivera down but Jimmie did well enough to earn a draw. He faces the debuting Bekhzod Usmonov of Tajikistan.
Usmonov has competed in boxing and MMA previously, according to Tapology.
Prospect vs Former Champ
Another match to keep an eye on is the welterweight clash between former champ Elvin Brito (5-3) and unbeaten local Carlos Trinidad-Snake (3-0).
Brito hasn’t fought since losing the belt to Luis Palomino last year. He was supposed to face former pro boxer Jamie Cox earlier this year but the fight fell through.
Trinidad-Snake has impressed in previous bouts in BKFC’s Squared Circle. A win over Brito puts him in instant title contention.
BKFC 43 also features the return of Taylor Starling.
