BKB News & Notes: Four Man Tournament Set for BKB 33; Former World Champion Ishe Smith Signs

BKB, the promotion that revived bare knuckle boxing, holds its next event on 29 July at The Indigo at the o2 in London.

As previously mentioned, the legend Jimmy Sweeney takes on Romanian powerpuncher Ionel Levitchi in the main event.

Also official is a four-man tournament. The winners will fight on an upcoming BKB event in Thailand.

BKB British champ Scott McHugh, Northern Ireland veteran Jonny Lawson, Aaron Sinclair, and Sonny Smith will compete in the BKB 33 tournament.

BKB British Champion Scott McHugh (9-4 bare knuckle record, according to boxrec) is one of the fighters competing in the tournament. “The Mute” is coming off a points win against Aaron McCallum at BKB 32 in May.

Joining McHugh is veteran warrior Jonny Lawson of Northern Ireland. Aaron Sinclair of Ireland will look for another win after a successful bare knuckle debut at the BYB event in Dubai.

Rounding out the field is Sonny Smith (1-0), who debuted last September.

Return of “The Nightmare”

In addition to Sweeney vs Levitchi and the four-man tournament, the BKB 33 fight card also features the return of “The Nightmare” Nathan DeCastro.

The popular Decastro makes his ring return after being sidelined by injury. Talented youngster Harvey Dossett is also in action, and there’s another title fight featuring Daniel Lerwell.

Ishe Smith Signs With BKB

Former world champion pro boxer Ishe “Sugar Shay” Smith has signed with BKB.

Smith, 44, is well-known to boxing fans. He appeared on the the first season of “The Contender” reality show, which aired on national television in the U.S.

The Las Vegas native also held the IBF Super Welterweight World Title, and faced some of boxing’s best during a 19-year professional boxing career. Daniel Jacobs, Sergio Mora, and Erislandy Lara are just some of the fighters Ishe shared the ring with.

Smith competed in bare knuckle once previously. He impressed in a decision win over Estevan Payan for Ken Shamrock’s Valor BK promotion.

It seems Smith will debut for the promotion at BKB 34. Mark your calendar to see Sugar Shay’s debut.
